The Ellison Hotel

The Ellison Hotel honoring author Ralph Ellison in Oklahoma City features a wide range of steel building systems to create a culturally important space.

Using the Panelized Delivery Method™, Deep-Dek Composite 6.0 panels were first assembled on the ground, then crane-lifted onto the frame for the guest room floors.

Once the frame was assembled, Deep-Dek Composite deck profiles, spanning the length of two hotel rooms, were fixed to the projecting leg of the ledger angle.

The panels consist of a steel frame and 6.0 Deep-Dek profiles. The frame is made up of two parallel beams using “upset” steel channels with ledger angles fixed to their webs.

After the Deep-Dek panels are placed, slab reinforcing steel, if required by design, is placed over the deck before it’s topped with concrete using traditional methods and equipment.

PROJECT LOCATION: Oklahoma City, OK

The Ellison Hotel in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is more than a hospitality project. It’s a community project. In its 75,000 square feet is community space for showcasing local artists, hosting forums on race and social issues, and a library of local literature. The eclectic mix of uses required an equally eclectic combination of steel building systems, including standard joists, standard composite deck, deep-ribbed composite floor deck, dovetail composite floor deck, and steel roof deck.
